Car Hire Vatican City and other ways to get around Rome

Whether on vacation or in Rome for business, good services are important during your stay.

Private car hire to Vatican City is one the many services available to guests at Hotel Amalia. Whether travelling through Fiumicino or Ciampino airports, arriving by train or cruise ship at the Civitavecchia Cruise Port, we can help with transportation directly to our hotel. We can also arrange city or other tours.

Getting to Hotel Amalia

Autostrada: From Rome's Grande Raccordo Annulare ( G.R.A.), exit at number 01 "Aurelio - San Pietro Città del Vaticano". Then follow the signs for "Roma centro".

Termini Train Station – 4 km

• Taxi: Fares are around € 15-20 depending upon volume of traffic in the city.

• The Metropolitana (subway): From Termini train station, take LIne A in the direction of "Battistini". Your exit is "Ottaviano S. Pietro". Exit from the Metropolitana station and walk 50 meters in the direction of the Vatican.


Airport Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino) - 35 km.

• Private Car Hire Vatican City: Hotel Amalia can arrange airport private car transfers with driver to or from Fiumicino at these rates:

— €52 by car

— €57 by station wagon

— €72 by van

— Driver's night supplement (2200 to 0700) is €5.

Hotel Amalia's private car services includes medium-high quality vehicles, such as Mercedes. Drivers wait for passengers to disembark (including late arrivals) and provide baggage assistance. We recommend this service as it is both practical and reliable: avoid long taxi lines, secure service personnel and drivers wait for planes in case of delays.

• By Train: Trains depart every 30 minutes and arrive directly at Termini Station. Go downstairs to the Metropolitana (subway/underground) take Line A towards 'Battistini' and you will arrive at the hotel in about five minutes.

• By Taxi: Transfers to and from Airport Fiumicino by taxi cost approximately €40. For your safety we recommend that you use only official taxis or you may reserve private car service directly with Hotel Amalia.


Ciampino Airport - 35 km.

• Private Car Hire Vatican City: Hotel Amalia can arrange private car transfers with driver to or from Ciampino at these rates:

— €52 by car

— €57 by station wagon

— €72 by van

— Driver's night supplement (2200 to 0700) is €5.

Cruise Ports, Civitavecchia – 80 km

• Trains: depart from Civitavecchia approximately every 30 minutes and arrive at Termini Train Station at the centre of Rome. Voyages take about 1 hour and 20 minutes although there are some Express trains which take 45 minutes. Once you arrive at the station, go down stairs to the Metropolitana and take Line A to the stop “Ottaviana S. Pietro”. Walk 2 blocks towards the Vatican to Via Germanico.

• Private Car Service – For Cruise guests, Hotel Amalia can arrange transfers to/from Civitavecchia by private car with driver:

— €140 by car

— €150 by station wagon

— €170 by van

Moving Around Rome

Amalia is a lovely hotel right at the center of Rome. All of Rome's great attractions are accessible by short walks or public transport. To arrive at the hotel, exit the Metro Line A at "Ottaviano" and walk 2 blocks (100 meters) towards the Vatican on Via Ottaviano. (Tip: Rome is a wonderful city to visit by foot so bring a comfortable pair of shoes!)

ATAC Roma - Bus, Tram, Metropolitano - Visit the ATAC Roma website and use their Route Planner. Here you can download maps. Per raggiungere la zona autobus Atac, l'Hotel Amalia è solo due minuti (50 metri) a piedi fino Piazza del Risorgimento. Il Metroplitano è solo 2 minuti a piedi prendendo via Ottaviano.
